eDEP on Mac Instructions

Safari 5.1 for Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard and Mac OS 10.7 Lion will not open eDEP PDF forms. More information from Adobe is available here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90885.html

Update - March 21, 2012: We are testing a new plugin that allows Firefox on Mac to fill and submit PDF forms and will provide our findings soon. More information about this plugin  is available here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90885.html

System Requirements

Mac OS 10.4.11 - 10.5.8

Apple Safari Browser up to version 5.0 - Safari 5.1 will not work with eDEP PDF forms

Adobe Reader 8.1 - newer versions of Adobe Reader do not work at this time

Issues

The two most common issues are:
  1. PDFs not displaying in Safari - you will get a message that says "Please be patient while this form is loading" - but the form never does. This is due to Safari not recognizing the Adobe Reader Plugin.
  2. Forms not validating - you are able to complete the form, but when you hit the validate button, the form seems to try to load to the validate screen, but does not. You may notice the address bar at the top of the browsers window performing a loop back and forth. This is due to a later version of the Adobe Reader plugin being used. The following instructions will help resolve these issues.

Instructions

Step 1 Download & install Adobe Reader 8.1.3 for your type of Mac processor*:

Adobe Reader 8 download for Intel Processor    or    Adobe Reader 8 download for PowerPC Processor

  • Quit and restart Safari
