Explanation of Land Use Loading Data for Chatham Estuaries

A CD is available from MassDEP containing the supporting data for the Massachusetts Estuaries Project Technical Report "Linked Watershed-Embayment Modeling to Determine Critical Nitrogen Loading Thresholds for Stage Harbor, Sulfur Springs, Taylors Pond, Bassing Harbor and Muddy Creek, Chatham, MA." (December, 2003). To obtain a copy of the CD, contact Brian Dudley of MassDEP at 508-771-6047 or email Brian.Dudley@state.ma.us.

All data were collected or developed by the staff of the Cape Cod Commission Water Resources Office as a participant on the MEP Technical Team. Questions or comments regarding the data contained on this CD should be directed to Ed Eichner or Brian DuPont at:

All data are subject to the use and access constraints of the aforementioned MEP Technical Report.

Following is a brief description of the data contained in the sub-directories of the CD:

In the "\Input_Data" folder:

  • Chatham_water.xls = a Microsoft Excel workbook containing annual water consumption data for each account in the Town of Chatham. Received from Town of Chatham in October, 2002.
  • Harwich_water.xls = a Microsoft Excel workbook containing annual water consumption data for each parcel both in the MEP study area and in the Town of Harwich. Collected by CCC WRO staff in October, 2002 from the Town of Harwich Water Department.
  • Chatham_sewered = a Microsoft Excel workbook of municipal sewer accounts in the Town of Chatham. Received from the Town of Chatham in January, 2003.
  • WWTF_Flow = a Microsoft Excel workbook of influent and effluent characteristics at the Chatham WWTF from 1998 through 2002. Received from the Town of Chatham in January, 2003.
  • buildout_summary = a Microsoft Excel workbook outlining developable parcels in the MEP study area that was the basis for nitrogen load additions at buildout used in the Technical Report.

In the "\Watershed_Workbooks" folder:

  • This directory contains one Excel workbook for each of the 52 sub-watersheds in the MEP study area. Each workbook contains all input data used to calculate annual nitrogen loads (e.g. wastewater, fertilizer use, impervious surfaces) for each sub-embayment. Loading variables for each watershed are summarized on the final sheet in each workbook.

In the "ChathamGIS" folder:

  • This folder contains a series of GIS layers (ESRI Arc/Info coverage format) used by the MEP Technical Team. One layer exists for each of the following: Chatham parcels (2002), Harwich parcels (1999), study area parcels, USGS watersheds, CCC parcelized watersheds, and study area roads. A sub-directory "\Export_Files" contains ESRI Interchange (.e00) files for each of these geospatial datalayers. For complete documentation, please view the metadata files associated with each layer. This CD contains the supporting data for the Massachusetts Estuaries Project Technical Report "Linked Watershed-Embayment Modeling to Determine Critical Nitrogen Loading Thresholds for Stage Harbor, Sulfur Springs, Taylors Pond, Bassing Harbor and Muddy Creek, Chatham, MA."
