143Site ID:IpswichTown:2.3Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of ~2 acres of historically-filled salt marsh on both sides of Route 133 just north of the Castle Neck River crossing. GIS analysis (including historic maps and a 1950s aerial photo) indicate that the delineated areas were contiguous salt marsh prior to construction of Route 133. The reason for fill placement is unknown, but is likely related to the road construction. Restoration actions would remove fill from the marsh surface to restore healthy marsh vegetation, soils, and hydrology. The marsh in this area is also likely impacted from polluted stormwater runoff that should be addressed as part of any marsh restoration project. Marsh and fill areas adjacent to the road are dominated by dense stands of Phragmites. Restoration potential is considered low based on the likely high per-acre costs associated with removal of fill that would have to be hauled from the site.
