146Site ID:RockportTown:4Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of a ~4-acre marsh south of Loblolly Cove and within the dynamic coastal velocity zone. During northeast storm events, the site likely experiences frequent overwash. No hydrologic connection was found between the site and the cove. The marsh within the site is bisected by Penzance Road and appears to be a fresh water system. Several stands of Phragmites were observed during the site visit. The history of tidal influence to this system is unknown. Further assessment is needed to evaluate the ecological condition of the site and potential benefits and detriments of converting the wetland to a tidally-influenced system. Restoration actions would install a culvert through the barrier beach and dunes at the north end of the site to provide for tidal exchange between the marsh and the cove. Restoration potential is considered low based on the dynamic nature of the area, unclear effects to the site from lack of tidal exchange, and likley difficult and costly design and construction to install a structure that could maintain proper function over the long term.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
