163Site ID:GloucesterTown:1Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of ~1 acre of historically-filled salt marsh that is part of the O'Malley Middle School grounds owned by the City of Gloucester. The 1850s Coastal Survey map shows that the entire area of ballfields and track were built on top of filled salt marsh. GIS analysis indicates that the delineated area may not be actively used for playing fields or other purposes. A site visit was not conducted. Restoration actions would remove fill material down to appropriate marsh grades and restore wetland soils, hydrology, and vegetation. Aerial photos suggest that several feet of fill may exist on top of the marsh. Restoration would likely be expensive due to the volume of fill and likely need to haul the material off site. Restoration potential is considered low based on the high per-acre costs and uncertainty as to the city's willingness to convert this area back to salt marsh. Restoration of this site may be appropriate as mitigation for off-site wetland impacts.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
