212Site ID:SalisburyTown:0.6Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of linear features of fill along the banks of the Blackwater River south of the Rt. 286 bridge that may be remnants of an old road and/or water control dikes - the original purpose of the fill is not know. Along the western bank of the river, the 1940s USGS map shows a berm or road bed along with a structure at the southern end (possibly an historic bridge) crossing the river. The northern portion of this fill and river bank has been eroded away; the southern portion remains on top of salt marsh. The berm along the eastern river bank may have been an old dike used to prevent tidal flushing of the marsh to the north for agricultural purposes. The dike is now breached and does not restrict tidal flow. The marsh upstream of the dike is extensively ditched. Together, both features comprise ~0.5 acre of fill. Restorative actions could remove the linear fill features along one or both river banks to restore historic salt marsh. This site has low restoration priority due to the relatively small opportunity. It may offer the most promise as a mitigation site.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
