216Site ID:RockportTown:3.8Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of ~4 acres of wetland along North Brook, south of Route 127 and Folley Cove. The 1850s Coastal Survey map shows the site as salt marsh separated from the cove by a road in the same location as Route 127. Currently, the site and brook are hydrologically connected to the cove by a concrete pipe beneath Route 127 and a hardened channel running upstream (south) of the culvert to the marsh. The upstream marsh is dominated by Typha and does not exhibit obvious signs of degradation. The system does not appear to receive tidal influence, except possibly during spring tide or storm events. It is reported that this brook supports American Eels and connects with some upstream ponds that provide adult eel habitat. Further assessment is needed to evaluate the ecological condition of the site and potential benefits and detriments of converting the wetland back to a tidally-influenced system. Restoration actions would replace the culvert beneath Route 127 with a structure designed to provide tidal exchange between the marsh and the cove. Restoration potential is considered low based on the likely high per-acre costs required to replace a long culvert beneath Route 127 and unclear merits of restoring tidal influence to the system.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
