320Site ID:SalisburyTown:2.1Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of a filled / altered wetland area behind commercial properties along the west side of Rt. 1 and within the larger, highly degraded Town Creek wetland system (see site #14). GIS analysis and site observations indicate that ~2 acres of historic salt marsh were filled at this location. Hand-augered soil cores would likely help determine whether soils within the site are native material or fill on top of former wetland. A variety of refuse was noted within the fill along the northern edge of the site. Fill on site ranges from 1-3 feet above adjacent wetland grade and is mostly mowed lawn with very dense stands of Phragmites along the southern edge. Restoration actions would remove fill material down to appropriate marsh grades and restore wetland soils, hydrology, and vegetation. Long-term maintenance would likely be needed to maintain native wetland vegetation and prevent the encroachment of Phragmites and other invasive plants. Lesser amounts of fill could be re-located on site to reduce overall costs, while also reducing the total area available for restoration. Restoration potential is considered low due to private ownership, relatively small restoration opportunity, and overall degraded condition of the entire Town Creek wetland system. Restoration of this site may be appropriate as mitigation for off-site wetland impacts.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
