427Site ID:NewburyTown:0Acres:PartialRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectMediumPriority:Site consists of the Route 1A bridge over the Parker River. This bridge is scheduled for replacement by MassHighway. In 2005, this site was assessed for its potential as a tidal restriction. Two separate tidal surveys were conducted immediately upstream and downstream of the bridge. Both measured restrictions of 0.3 - 0.4 inches during spring tide conditions. The new bridge design does increase the cross-sectional flow area by reducing the size and number of support piers. Over 1,500 acres of tidal marshes exist upstream of this crossing. At the time of publication of this restoration plan, MassHighway has agreed to proceed with construction, and then to coordinate with WRP after construction to conduct a detailed tidal survey. If that survey documents a significant restriction, options for mitigating that restriction will be pursued, including installation of flow-equalizing culverts beneath the approach fill. Restoration potential is considered medium pending the outcome of further investigations after the new bridge is constructed. See the Rapid Site Assessment for further details.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
