72Site ID:NewburyTown:12.1Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectNAPriority:Site is part of the Red Gate marsh system west of Route 1A and east of Old Rowley Road. This entire marsh is tidally-restricted by culverts under Route 1A and by the Old Rowley Road crossing. As mitigation for the Newburyport rail line expansion, the MBTA recently installed a new concrete box culvert beneath Old Rowley Road to restore tidal exchange between approximately 12 acres of the Red Gate marsh and the marshes to the west abutting the Parker River. The culvert was installed in fall 2005; the Mosquito Control District plans to complete the associated tidal ditch cleaning work in 2006. Although this project partially restores flow to the site, a much larger area of marsh to the east and south remains tidally-restricted due to under-sized culverts beneath Route 1A (see site #54).Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
