Projects Overview
DER supports a wide variety of coastal wetland restoration projects and has helped people restore hundreds of acres of degraded and destroyed wetlands across Massachusetts. In short, the program serves as a facilitator of restoration -- working to identify new projects, organize project teams, provide technical assistance, secure project funding, and help manage and coordinate restoration activities from start to finish. Visit the Priority Projects page to see the list of WRP projects.
Restoration by the Numbers (as of September 2012)*
- Completed Coastal Wetland Projects: 80
- Acres Under Restoration: 1,207
- Active Projects: 50
*Figures for completed projects and acres under restoration are for projects that DER has assisted in some form (e.g., funding, coordination, technical assistance, etc.). Projects for which restoration acreage cannot be determined at this time (e.g., invasive species bio-control sites) are not included. Active projects include all sites known to DER that are currently in the feasibility, design, permitting, or construction phase of project development.
