321 CMR 3.02: Hunting Particular Game

May 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Field Headquarters, 1 Rabbit Hill Rd (off North Drive) Westborough.

In accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 131, Sections 5 and 72, and Chapter 30A, Section 2, NOTICE is hereby given of a public hearing to be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Division of Fisheries & Wildlife Field Headquarters, 1 Rabbit Hill Road, Westborough, Mass., relative to rules and regulations regarding the dates of the archery deer hunting season and the length of the shotgun deer season in Wildlife Management Zone 12.

Plain Language Summary of Hearing Proposal:

1. Revise the dates of the archery deer season so as to begin on the 6th Monday prior to Thanksgiving, and end on the 1st Saturday after Thanksgiving. This will retain the 6-week archery season while consistently including the Thanksgiving holiday period in the open season.

2. Extend the shotgun deer season in Zone 12 from one to two weeks, consistent with the remainder of the state.

3. Make technical corrections in the descriptions of certain Wildlife Management Zones for purposes of clarity.

Fisheries and Wildlife Board Action--- On June 22, 2009, the Fisheries and Wildlife Board voted to revise the dates of the archery deer season so it will begin on the 6th Monday prior to Thanksgiving, and end on the 1st Saturday after Thanksgiving. This will retain the 6-week archery season while consistently including the Thanksgiving holiday period in the open season. The Board also voted to change the shotgun deer season in Zone 12 from one to two weeks, consistent with the remainder of the state. Both of these regulatory changes will take effect in 2010.
