In accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 131, Sections 5 and 72, and Chapter 30A, Section 2, NOTICE is hereby given of a public hearing to be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Borderland State Park Visitor's Center, 259 Massapoag Avenue, North Easton, Mass., relative to rules and regulations pertaining to the dates of the spring turkey hunting season in Wildlife Management Zones 11 & 12. (Barnstable, Bristol & Plymouth Counties.)

Directions

Plain Language Summary of Hearing Proposal:

1. The proposal would change the length of the spring turkey hunting season in Wildlife Management Zones 11 and 12 (Barnstable, Bristol, and Plymouth counties) from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Since spring turkey hunting began in 1980, the open zone has expanded eastward from the Berkshires in concert with expanding turkey populations. By 2003, all WMZs except 11 and 12 had a 4-week season. Spring hunting was initiated in Zones 11 and 12, but with a 2-week season. Turkey populations in those zones continue to expand and a 4-week season is sustainable and consistent with other areas of Massachusetts.
