Anadromous fish restoration programs in Massachusetts are a cooperative effort between
Anadromous fish are migratory fish which hatch in fresh water, make their way to the sea to grow, then return as adults to fresh water to spawn, usually near where they had hatched.

MassWildlife aids anadromous fish by

SalmonStocking over 2 million fry into tributaries of the Connecticut River in MA every year.

salmonMonitoring fish passage at two dams on the Connecticut River, two dams on the Merrimack River, and one dam on the Westfield River.

salmonTrapping salmon and shad for transport to hatcheries and/or upstream release locations.

Working through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's license process to mandate safe and effective passage for anadromous fish at hydroelectric projects in MA.

Working with local watershed teams to improve our freshwater habitat.
