Educators' Corner
To promote the wise use and enjoyment of the state's wildlife resources, MassWildlife offers workshops to all types of educators who work with children of all ages. Classroom teachers and aides, youth group and scout leaders, teachers-in-training and homeschool educators will all find valuable activities and information that meet their educational needs. Programs are offered by trained volunteers across the state who are educators and have a passion for wildlife.
Fall 2009 Wetland Workshops
Environmental Concern & MassWildlife present Wetlands Across America in Massachusetts! Three Educator Wetland Workshops
WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands - Oct. 27, 2009 (9am-4pm)
Where: Great
Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, in Sudbury, MA
What: Educators of all kinds who attend will be introduced to
wetland ecology through a study of the three parameters of wetlands
(vegetation, soils, & hydrology) as well as wetland functions and values
by utilizing K-12 hands-on, inquiry-based, cross-curricular activities.
Cost: $45 This fee includes WOW! curriculum and additional course
materials. Pre-registration is required by October 13, 2009.

WOW! Facilitator Workshop - Oct. 28, 2009 (9am-3pm)
(WOW! is a pre-requisite to attend this workshop)
Where: River
Bend Visitor's Center, Uxbridge, MA
What: Educators who want to continue the study of wetlands, practice
additional activities not covered during WOW!, and learn the processes
and protocols of the nationwide WOW! Facilitator network. Participants
leave with skills and materials to lead WOW! Workshops for other educators.
Cost: $40 includes WOW! Facilitator manual and additional materials
are included in the cost. Pre-registration is required by October

POW! The Planning of Wetlands (newly revised & updated)
- October 29, 2009 (9am-4pm)
Where: River
Bend Farm Visitor's Center, Uxbridge, MA
What: Attendees will be guided through the process for creating,
restoring or enhancing a wetland on school grounds, or elsewhere within
the community. POW! incorporates activities that allow students to fully
participate in designing, preparing, and monitoring a schoolyard wetland,
and utilizing it as an outdoor classroom.
Cost: $50 includes POW! curriculum and additional course materials.
