Junior Conservation Camp

Where: Chesterfield Scout Reservation, Chesterfield

Campers pitching a tentCamp Description: This 2-week overnight summer camp for girls and boys 13 - 17 years of age offers a program of conservation education and instruction in outdoor recreation skills. It introduces youth to the ethical concepts and knowledge essential to a lifetime of properly enjoying our natural resources and the leisure activities that depend on their careful stewardship. Subjects include: forestry, soil conservation, wildlife management, archery, orienteering, basic camping and more. A state approved Basic Hunter Education Course and Boating Safety Course is also part of the progam.

Program is operated by Mass. Junior Conservation Camp, Inc. with the assistance of state and local environmental agencies. Many conservation and sportsmen's groups sponsor area teens to camp. Consider calling on those groups to find out if camperships are available! Camp website and application on the web -- or contact Michelle Kerouac (508) 450-5120 for an application form.

Cost: $600/camper--all fees included. Many local sportsmens clubs are willing to sponsor a camper's fee to camp--your teen does not need to be a member to apply for a sponsorship. Contact the local club in your area to find out if they have filled their reserved slot.

Camp Scholarships Available -- Potential campers should contact local sportsmen's clubs to apply for a scholarship. Many clubs send one or more teens to camp; often the clubs are willing to send non-club members to camp.

Deadline for Application: Clubs wishing to reserve a space or spaces for a camper have until May 1 to do so.
