Project Sites & Monitoring Results
To date, the Upland Program has reclaimed nearly 2,000 acres of abandoned fields on various conservation lands across the state. A biological monitoring program was started in 1999 to determine before and after impacts of reclamation activities, to determine if early-successional species were utilizing reclaimed areas, and to aid in determining future habitat treatments. Birds are monitored using point-count surveys, vegetation is monitored using a modified BBird field protocol, and butterflies are monitored using a Pollard transect count.
