Natural Heritage Database
Over 16,000 current and historical records of species, natural community and vernal pool occurrences are maintained in the Heritage Program's
database. More than 14,000 of these records are geographically referenced.
These data are used to inform biological inventories and research,
land protection efforts, and environmental impact project reviews.
Geographic Information Systems
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) component of
the Program utilizes species and geographical information to better
inform rare species and habitat protection efforts. GIS activities
mostly involve analysis of species information, map production,
and environmental review. To find out more about GIS at NHESP CLICK HERE.
The Natural Heritage Program is no longer maintaining Rare Species Occurrence Lists by County. If you are interested in obtaining a county, watershed or ecoregional species list, please contact (508) 389-6300, ext. 300. For site specific information CLICK HERE.
