The Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) is an easy-to-use taxonomic reference.

The Ode News page has descriptions and photos of Odonates(dragon/damselflies).

The USGS maintains a Moths of North America site, with information on Massachusetts species-- they also have a Butterflies of North America site.

The Partners-In-Flight Program has a good list of ornithological resources.

The USDA has a National Plant Database with searchable features.

Geographic Information Systems

The DFWELE Commisioner's Office maintains a comprehensive list of GIS resources on the web: click here

ESRI has become an industry standard in GIS software.  They also have a list of sites related to Geography and Conservation.

The Clark Labs, part of Clark University, produces IDRISI, another widely used GIS software.

Harvard Forest is an important center for forest research in Massachusetts, and nationally.

The Massachusetts Butterfly Club sponsors state-wide butterfly activities.
