Small Research Contracts Program

NHESP sponsors a Small Research Contract (SRC) program which typically funds several dozen research projects each field season focused on biolgoical conservation priorities. These projects vary from radio telemetry tracking of rare turtles to searches for old growth forest remnants to genetic research on rare plant species. Research and inventory proposals are solicited in January each year and contracts are awarded in March.

Note: The Small Research Contracts Program has been cancelled for 2005 due to budget cuts.

Many reports of rare species occurrences are turned in by non-staff biologists, amateur naturalists or observant members of the public. If you have observed a Massachusetts rarity and can document the observation with a map and photos, video or audio tape, please let us know about it! Download an observation form here or contact the NHESP Data Manager at (508) 389-6360.
