The 12th edition of the Natural Heritage Atlas displays the boundaries of Priority Habitats and Estimated Habitats. It is the product of an Natural Heritage Atlasextensive revision statewide of Priority Habitat and Estimated Habitats to reflect the latest state-listed species data, understanding of species biology and habitat requirements, and GIS technology and data. These revisions represent the last phase of implementing the revised MESA regulations, which took effect July 1, 2005.

The 12th Edition of the Natural Heritage Atlas is effective October 1, 2006. Priority Habitats and Estimated Habitats were amended in the towns of Truro and Lancaster on December 1, 2006. The amended versions can be viewed using the interactive viewer or downloaded from MassGIS.

  • Opening the interactive web viewer
  • Viewing the large-sized Priority Habitat and Estimated Habitat maps that were sent to the Conservation Commission and Planning Board of each town or city in Massachusetts in September 2006.
  • Downloading the Priority Habitat and Estimated Habitat GIS datalayers from MassGIS and viewing them with appropriate GIS software.
