Rare
Species Fact Sheets
The Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program has prepared many fact sheets describing the state's rare species. The fact sheets describe species appearance, habitat needs, North American range, state distribution, and reasons for rarity.
Electronic pdf versions of rare species fact sheets can be acessed through links on the Massachusetts List of Endangered, Threatened, and Special Concern Species, which is organized by taxonomic group.
You will need a copy of a pdf reader, such as Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.
Please note that some information on the fact sheets is outdated.
Copies of available fact sheets may be requested by contacting the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program.
