ANTLERLESS DEER PERMIT DRAWING & GAME RECIPE CONTEST, JULY 31, 2008
Every year MassWildlife holds a public drawing to determine who will
receive an Antlerless Deer permit for particular hunting zones throughout
the state. The Antlerless Deer Permit Drawing will take place on July
31 beginning at 5 PM at the Lenox Sportsman's Club in Lenox. This year
the Gun Owner's Action League is partnering with MassWildlife with a
new format for this event which will include a Game Recipe Contest,
a presentation on deer management in Massachusetts, drawing the Antlerless
Deer Permit numbers and announcing the Game Recipe Contest Winners.
Proceeds from the Game Recipe Contest will benefit the Massachusetts
Junior Conservation Camp. For more details on the event, including Recipe
Contest registration, visit the Gun
Owner's Action League website.
Antlerless Deer Permit Drawing Details:
If the last digit of your Hunting or Sporting License matches a number drawn for the Wildlife Management Zone (WMZ) for which you applied, you will receive a postcard notification that you are eligible for an Antlerless Deer Permit for that WMZ. If you match the Partial Number, the number of randomly selected applicants is indicated in the table of winning numbers. (Note: Not every applicant with the partial number will receive a Permit.)
All selected applicants will be notified of their permit by postcard in mid-August. To ensure receipt of the permit by archery season, postcard and $5 fee must be returned to "MassWildlife FHQ, 1 Rabbit Hill Road, Westborough, MA 01581" by September 3.
Permits will be sent out in a mass mailing to those people who turned in their postcard and fee by the early September deadline in a mass mailing in time for the archery season.
Applicants not selected for their WMZ of choice will have first option to re-apply for permits in WMZs where allocations exceeded applications. Those postcards will also be mailed in mid-August.
The final option for obtaining a permit, or acquiring additional permits, will occur in October when remaining permits will be available for sale. (More details will be forthcoming on this process.) Each antlerless deer permit will come with an antlerless deer tag, increasing the hunter's bag limit for antlerless deer by the number of permits possessed.
After the Fisheries & Wildlife Board meeting on June 25, 2008, 2008 permit allocation information will be posted.
