October 14 -- Zone 11 antlerless deer permits have sold out for the 2008 deer hunting season.
October 6 -- Over-the-Counter (OTC) sales of antlerless deer permits began at all MassWildlife District Offices (except the Southeast District Office), the Westboro Field Headquarters, and at the MassOutdoors website (only for hunters that purchased their hunting or sporting license online). In the Southeast District, permits will only be available for purchase the first week of sales (Monday October 6-Friday October 10) at the Myles Standish State Forest Nature Center next to the Forest Headquarters. Permits will not be available for purchase at the Southeast District Office in Bourne until Tuesday October 14th. Permits will be available for Zones 10, 11, 13 and 14 only.
September 5 -- All antlerless deer permits will be mailed in late September in one mass mailing. At this time, deer hunters who applied for a permit have received either a green or white notification cards. Recipients of these cards must mail back the card along with the fee. Please do not tear or cut the card.
August 27 -- Zone 9 permits are no longer available for re-applicants. Reapplicants may now only apply for Zones 10, 11,13 & 14
August 13 -- Zone 3 permits are now no longer available. Re-applicants can now only apply for Zones 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14.
August 11--Notification of deer permits were sent out to hunters late last week. Hunters whose numbers were drawn in the antlerless deer permit drawing will recieve a green notification card. The card must be mailed back with the $5 before September 3 to ensure the permit will arrive in time for the archery season.
Hunters receiving a white notification card can re-apply for a permit in a different zone. A few white cards did not print the zones available. The zones available for this "second chance" are Zones 03, 09, 10, 11, 13, and 14. Due to a limited number of permits available in certain WMZs, re-applicants should send in their postcards as soon as possible since re-applicant requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The final option for obtaining a permit, or acquiring additional permits, will occur October 6 when any remaining permits will be available for sale at several location throughout the state. More details will be forthcoming on this process.
