Because it is committed to providing taxpayers with tools to make sales tax collection and payment more efficient, the Department of Revenue is happy to announce the development of a new web application related to boat, snow mobile, recreational and/or all terrain vehicle registration.
This online application will allow taxpayers to pay the related sales tax (a prerequisite to registration) through Electronic Funds Withdrawal and receive an immediate confirmation receipt. This receipt can then be presented to the Massachusetts Environmental Police at the time of registration. The application is easy to use, available 24 hours a day through our website and significantly reduces the two to four week traditional wait for the sales tax receipt (ST-6) or the exemption (ST-6E).
This new sales tax payment application will be available as of July 28th, 2003. It can be accessed by using the following DOR web address ( www.mass.gov/dor ) either from home or at one of our district offices listed below. Taxpayers who plan to register in Boston or Springfield also have the option of going directly to 251 Causeway Street (Boston) or 165 Liberty Street (Springfield) to access the DOR web application at these Environmental Police offices.
Please note that taxpayers using this application cannot make sales tax payments by credit card. Therefore, in order to process transactions, taxpayers will need to provide a valid bank account number and routing number.
This is a new process and the Department of Revenue would like to make it
available to as many individuals and businesses as possible. To that end,
your courtesy in posting this letter in a prominent location in your store
or business establishment would be greatly appreciated.
