Fishing and dealer permit applications may be mailed to the MarineFisheries main office in Boston for processing.  The non-commercial lobster permit may also be processed via the internet at www.sport.state.ma.us/ (Massachusetts residents only). Non-residents must mail in their non-commercial lobster applications as special instructions apply. In addition, we offer three walk-in permitting locations: 

Boston Monday - Friday (8:45 AM to 4:45 PM)
Payment for permits may be in cash, personal check or money order.
Certain commercial permit transactions can be completed onlyat our Boston office, including:
  • transfer of limited entry permits
  • updating or changing vessel information on certain limited entry permits
  • issuing new limited entry permits
  • complying with any other request that requires administrative approval from the Boston office staff

Gloucester Monday - Friday (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM)
Payment for permits may be in personal check or money order (NO CASH).

New Bedford (Quest Building) Monday - Friday (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM)
Payment for permits may be in personal check or money order (NO CASH).
