STATE LOLIGO SQUID TRAWL FISHERY TO OPEN
SUNDAY, APRIL 23RD AT A 2,500-LB. TRIP LIMIT
NOAA Fisheries Reports 80% of Quarterly Quota Reached on April 21st

The Loligo squid trawl fishery opens in state waters on Sunday, April 23rd. However, because 80% of the quarterly quota has already been reached, the fishery will open at a 2,500-lb. daily trip limit. The state waters small-mesh trawl fishery is open from April 23rd through June 9th.

The federal management plan for Loligo squid requires federally permitted vessels to comply with a daily trip limit of 2,500 lbs. once 80% of any of the seasonal quotas has been reached. After action at an April 7th Marine Fisheries Advisory Commission business meeting, state-only permitted trawlers (without federal squid permits) are now limited to the same 2,500-lb. daily trip limit (322 CMR 6.39; see previous April 21st MarineFisheries Advisory).
