2,500-LB. TRIP LIMIT FOR STATE LOLIGO SQUID TRAWL FISHERY
EFFECTIVE TUESDAY, MAY 23RD.
NOAA Fisheries Reports 80% of Quarterly Quota to be Reached on May 22nd

The Division of Marine Fisheries (MarineFisheries) is providing this notice that effective Tuesday, May 23rd at 0001 hours, the state Loligo squid trawl fishery will be subject to a 2,500-lb. daily trip limit. This action is being taken after NOAA Fisheries reports that 80% of the quarterly quota will be taken as of Monday, May 22nd. The state waters smallmesh trawl fishery is open from April 23rd through June 9th.

The federal management plan for Loligo squid requires federally permitted vessels to comply with a daily trip limit of 2,500 lbs. once 80% of any of the seasonal quotas has been reached. After action at an April 7th Marine Fisheries Advisory Commission business meeting, state-only permitted trawlers (without federal squid permits) are now limited to the same 2,500-lb. daily trip limit (322 CMR 6.39; see previous April 21st MarineFisheries Advisory).
