It has come to the attention of the Division of Marine Fisheries ( MarineFisheries) that there is a delay in the distribution of 2008 trap tags to commercial lobstermen. All valid 2007 lobster trap tags will therefore remain valid through June 30, 2008. Valid 2008 trap tags will be required by July 1, 2008. Under 322 CMR 3.07 & 6.12 all commercial fish and conch pots as well as lobster traps must bear valid trap tags.

MarineFisheries is exploring options to improve the efficiency of the trap tag program and its administration to ensure more fishermen receive their tags in time to meet legal deadlines.
