2009/2010 COMMERCIAL SPINY DOGFISH FISHERY TO CLOSE ON
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Northern Region 2009/2010 quota for spiny dogfish is projected to be harvested, MarineFisheries is therefore taking action to prohibit the possession and landing of spiny dogfish by commercial fishermen effective 0001 hours on Sunday, September 27th. The spiny dogfish fishery in the Northern Region is scheduled to re-open May 1, 2010 when the 2010/2011 fishing season begins.
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Spiny Dogfish Management Board approved a 12-million lb. quota for spiny dogfish for the 2009/2010 fishing year that assigned 58% of the overall spiny dogfish quota to the Northern Region (ME through CT), 26% to the Southern Region (NY through VA) and the remaining 16% to North Carolina.
