The Division of Marine Fisheries (MarineFisheries) is providing this notice of regulatory measures in effect for the 2009 sea herring fishery in Management Area 1A (see map below):

Two additional open fishing days for sea herring harvested from Management Area 1A have been added during the remainder of September as specified by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. During the last two weeks of September this would keep Monday, September 21st  – Thursday, September 24th and Sunday, September 27th – Wednesday, September 30th open to landing of sea herring. Additionally Mondays and Tuesdays will be open to landing of sea herring harvested from 1A during the October – December fishing period, until the quota has been harvested. Under this proposal, the October – December quota is estimated to be harvested around November 21, 2009. Vessels participating in other fisheries may retain an incidental catch of herring that does not exceed more than 2,000 lbs of herring per trip.
