MarineFisheries Advisory
FALL SPINY DOGFISH LIMIT CONFIRMED AT 2,000-LBS PER DAY –
Limit to increase from 600-lbs. on September 1st
Annual specifications for the 2009 spiny dogfish fishery announced in May indicated that beginning September 1st the trip limit would increase to anywhere between 1,500 - 2,000-lbs. per day depending on an assessment of landings prior to September 1st. The Division of Marine Fisheries (MarineFisheries) has finalized that assessment and has set the trip limit at 2,000-lbs. per day beginning September 1st. The increased limit will remain in effect until MarineFisheries determines that 58% of the annual ASMFC approved regional quota of 12-million lbs. has been reached.
State trip limits apply to all permit holders (state and federal) landing in the Commonwealth. When 58% of the interstate plan quota is reached, and DMF closes the fishery – all landings of dogfish (by state and federal permit holders) will be prohibited through the end of the fishing year.
