Recent catch statistics for Sea Herring Management Area 1A indicate that 2,400 metric tons (MT) of the area’s quota remain, prompting Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine to reopen the area to fishing.  Consistent with federal and interstate action and 322 CMR 9.00, the Division of Marine Fisheries (MarineFisheries) is re-opening Area 1A from November 29, 2010 through December 2, 2010 (Monday-Thursday).  Beginning on December 3, 2010, and until further notice, Area 1A vessels may not land or possess more than 2,000 lb sea herring per day.
