Revised Sea Herring ‘Days-Out’ for Area 1A for October 18 – December 31
On October 14, 2010 officials from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, representing the ASMFC Sea Herring Section states, revised Area 1A effort controls regarding the possession and landing of sea herring. From October 18, 2010 through December 31, 2010, or until the yearly quota is realized, the directed Area 1A sea herring fishery is permitted to land on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Vessels may retain and land a by-catch of sea herring not exceeding 2,000 pounds of sea herring once per day on all ‘days-out’ (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).
Any further revisions will be based on landing data and must be approved by the three states.
Authorization letters have been sent to Massachusetts sea herring permit holders allowing for the implementation of these changes to Area 1A sea herring effort control.
