MarineFisheries reminds anglers that New Bedford Harbor has been and remains a superfund cleanup site since 1984.  Dredging activities are ongoing to remove the contamination.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has regulations that restrict the harvest of certain finfish and shellfish in this area along with MarineFisheries regulations (322 CMR 6.29).  MarineFisheries supports the MADPH regulations and health guidelines for fish that can be caught, and will continue to coordinate with MA DPH until the New Bedford Harbor cleanup is completed.  For information contact the MA DPH at 617-624-5757.  Other information is available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1-888-372-7341).
