Loligo Squid Possession Limit

On April 13, 2012 the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announced the Trimester I butterfish mortality cap had been reached, prompting the implementation of a 2,500 lb incidental loligo squid commercial trip limit. This incidental trip limit is effective April 17, 2012 through April 30, 2012.

Pursuant to 322 CMR 6.39(2), the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is specifying that effective April 22, 2012, when the state’s fishery opens, through April 30, 2012 a permitted commercial fishing vessel shall not possess or land loligo squid in excess of 2,500 lbs per calendar day.
