Eelgrass
Tay Evans, Alison Leschen
Eelgrass is a recognized critical nursery habitat for a variety of species. Several projects are routinely conducted by Division staff.
- SeagrassNet
MarineFisheries conducts annual monitoring of eelgrass in Salem Sound as part of the global SeagrassNet program. It is anticipated that a South Coast SeagrassNet site will be added in the near future.
- Hubline eelgrass restoration site monitoring
For a description of this project, please see the Hubline eelgrass page.
- Collaborative research
MarineFisheries collaborates with state and federal agencies on projects involving eelgrass research and restoration including on-going restoration efforts in the Annisquam River, Gloucester
- Review of coastal development projects
Projects should avoid impacts to eelgrass, a special aquatic site designated under the Clean Water Act Section 404.b(1). Consultation with MarineFisheries investigators is recommended if a project involves potential impacts to eelgrass or if a project requires eelgrass restoration or mitigation.
