 Massachusetts Low Flow Inventory

Ipswich River Watershed Association

GreenBuilding and Low Impact Development Office Retrofit

The Ipswich River is Massachusetts’ most infamous case of stream depletion due to poor water management decisions at many scales. To improve the health of the river and establish a permanent demonstration site, the Ipswich River Watershed Association http://www.ipswichriver.org/ applied a suite of integrated, site-level water management approaches that can be applied to almost any house or business:

  • Water efficient appliances (toilet, washing machine, dishwasher, showerhead & faucets)
  • Green roof
  • Rain gardens and drought-tolerant native plants garden
  • Cistern
  • Porous pavement parking area
  • Greywater system design
