Sustainable Flow Demonstration Projects
Keeping Water Local Demonstration Grants
These grants funded innovative approaches to managing water, wastewater and stormwater to keep water local within a watershed. Projects were required to benefit aquatic habitats through reduced water withdrawal, increased groundwater recharge, or other activity that keeps water local.
Cost-Benefit Analysis of Water Resource Management
These projects provided transferable examples of comprehensive environmental and economic cost benefit analyses to help communities with their water resource planning and decision making process. The objective was to guide communities toward the alternatives that best met their needs and best protected rivers, wetlands, natural resources and quality of life. Projects were required to address the interconnectedness of water, wastewater, stormwater and water balances (surface and groundwater) in determining the short and long term environmental and economic consequences associated with meeting water resource needs.
RIFLS Restoration Grant
The goal of the RIFLS Restoration Grant was to assist existing River Instream Flow Stewards (RIFLS) www.rifls.org groups in using their stream flow data and taking the next steps toward restoring more natural flow regimes and healthier river ecosystems. Secondary goals were to encourage mutually beneficial partnerships and strengthen the relationships between local environmental groups and municipalities and to support sustainable management of natural resources.
