Stream Restoration Projects
Project Name: Minute Man National Historic Park Culvert Replacement and Daylighting
Site Location and Description:
The project is located within the Minute Man National Historic Park on a highly altered landscape near the famous ‘bloody triangle’. The National Park Service wishes to recreate the historic landscape and improve the function and viability of this headwater stream.
| Subwatershed Problems: |
Proposed Solutions: |
| Currently the headwaters of the stream is underground. |
Daylight portion of stream currently underground. |
| Inadequate culvert beneath Sunnyside Lane |
Replace culvert |
| Poor water quality and invasive plants. |
Incorporate stormwater BMPs and plant native riparian plants. |
Status:
A final design was completed to daylight the currently culverted stream both up and downstream of Sunnyside Lane and to replace the inadequate culvert beneath the road. The design also incorporates stormwater best management practices to protect stream and wetland water quality and establish native planting to help eradicate existing invasive plants. In October 2006, the downstream portion of the stream was daylighted. Riverways provided technical staff and technical services from a restoration engineering consultant.
Project Needs:
Funding obtained through the National Park Service for Phase I daylighting. Funding for Phase II and III for construction needed.
