Secretary of Administration and Finance Glen Shor and Department of Revenue Commissioner Amy Pitter recently recognized the first graduates of the joint certificate and internship program developed by Bunker Hill Community College and the Department of Revenue at the State House. DOR reached out to the community college to help create the new taxation certificate program for students who have chosen a career in state taxation in the face of a shortage of workers. Bunker Hill began offering the new program in the fall of 2013.
As part of the curriculum, students participated in presentations by DOR staff on Massachusetts state tax law. Upon completion of the class curriculum, students who met certain GPA requirements also took part in a 17-week internship at DOR where they completed rotations in auditing and taxpayer services. Nine students from the inaugural class graduated and may be eligible for positions at DOR.
In addition, Bunker Hill and DOR are collaborating on the newly-created Business Administration Associate Degree with a Taxation Option.
