The Commonwealth of Massachusetts awarded Penn National Gaming a Commonwealth slot parlor license to operate the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, Massachusetts.

State law requires Plainridge Park Casino, before paying anyone who wins $1,200 or more on a slot machine, to do an automated verification with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) to see if the winner owes past-due child support or has a past-due Massachusetts tax liability.

Winners who are positively matched in the verification process will be notified immediately and the withheld funds will be sent to the Department of Revenue and applied against any past-due amounts.

Will everyone who wins $1,200 or more on a slot machine be reviewed for past-due child support and Massachusetts tax liabilities?

Yes. It is required that all slot machine jackpot winners of $1,200 or more be verified through the DOR directory to check for any past-due liabilities. A valid photo identification (e.g. driver’s license, state issued ID, or passport) will be required for identity. If no intercept is required, the winner will receive the entire amount.

How will I be notified that my winnings have been intercepted for a past-due child support or tax liability?

An authorized employee of the casino will provide you with a statement detailing the intercept amounts of past-due child support and/or state tax liabilities. You will also be given a DOR Notice of Intercept pdf format of Offsetting Slot Parlor Casino Winnings
with an explanation and the telephone number of DOR’s Customer Service Bureau.

Will any taxes be automatically withheld from my winnings?

No. Withholding taxes will not automatically be withheld. As a winner of $1,200 or more, you will be given a Form W-2G to be filed with your Federal and Massachusetts tax return.

If I win less than $1,200 will I have to go through the verification process?

No, only jackpot winnings of $1,200 or more will require the winner to go through the verification process. If under $1,200, the winner receives the full amount.

What if I believe that an interception was not accurate?

Casino staff members have no information on the interception. Please direct all questions to DOR.

  • If you believe your winnings were incorrectly intercepted for past-due child support, please contact DOR’s Child Support Enforcement at 800-332-2733 within 14 days of the intercept.
  • If your winnings were intercepted for an outstanding tax liability, and you have questions or concerns, please call the Customer Service Bureau at 617-887-6367 or toll-free within Massachusetts at 1-800-392-6089.

If I have past-due balances for Child Support and past tax liabilities. How will my winnings be distributed?

First, your winnings will offset any past-due child support, next your winnings will offset any past-due tax liability, and the remainder will be given to you.

Will the DOR intercept information remain confidential?

Yes, Plainridge Park Casino and all employees are required to follow strict confidentiality laws imposed by the state regarding child support or personal tax information.
