Massachusetts Cancer Registry

The Massachusetts Cancer Registry (MCR) is responsible for the collection of information regarding all newly diagnosed cases of cancer in Massachusetts. These data provide crucial information for monitoring the impact of environmental and occupational hazards, as well as for designing and evaluating cancer prevention and control programs. Each year, the MCR issues Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Massachusetts, which provides statewide information on cancer incidence and mortality. There is also a City/Town Supplement series with town-specific cancer incidence information. The MCR also issues special topical publications, such as Cancer in Massachusetts Women, Childhood Cancers in Massachusetts, and Cancer in Massachusetts Men. The MCR makes aggregate data available through consultation, technical assistance and presentations. The MCR also actively collaborates with other MDPH bureaus in cancer prevention and control programs, with medical and epidemiological researchers at leading universities, and with the American Cancer Society.

The MCR is a member of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), and adheres to standards as set by NAACCR, Commission on Cancer/American College of Surgeons, National Cancer Institute, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Program of Cancer Registries.
