STD/HIV
Prevention Training Center of New England
The Mission of the Region I STD/HIV Prevention Training Center
is to provide, on a regional basis (six states of New England),
professional training programs in sexually transmitted disease (STD)
clinical management and HIV prevention education.
This training shall involve concepts and procedures (standards of
care) related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management
and patient counseling for STD and for prevention of HIV infection.
This training, to be done in conjunction with a national network
of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers, is offered not only to clinicians
working within an STD clinic setting, but to all physicians, mid-level
providers and laboratorians involved in the management of STDs and
HIV infection throughout New England. These settings include private
practice, health maintenance organizations (HMO), community health
centers, family planning clinics and hospital-based clinics.
The STD/HIV Prevention Training Center [STD/HIV PTC] of New England
is one of ten national sites funded by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention [CDC], and is part of the National Network of STD/HIV
PTCs.
In conjunction with regional medical schools and the Massachusetts
Department of Public Health, the PTC offers courses for healthcare
providers in the diagnosis, treatment and management of sexually
transmitted diseases and the prevention of human immunodeficiency
virus [HIV].
Theses offerings meet a continuing need for effective training in
STD clinical services in support of disease prevention, and are
a primary source of post graduate STD education for medical professionals.
PTC courses are provided primarily for health professionals in Region
1, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Rhode Island and Vermont.
