Regional Health Dialogues to Be Held Across State - I invite you to attend one of 8 Regional Dialogues I am holding across the state to discuss our collective public health priorities. These dialogues will offer an opportunity to have a conversation, present the latest health information for your region, identify resources and areas of need, and together shape a public health partnership that values your expertise. Click here for more details.

Emergency Preparedness - The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has the capacity and capability to identify infectious disease outbreaks, including outbreaks caused by the deliberate use of biological agents by terrorists. Working with partners at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other state agencies, this program has been evolving for the past three years.

Nursing Home Report Card - Nursing home survey information is available to help consumers evaluate the quality of care provided by the state's Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing homes. The Division of Health Care Quality inspects nursing homes at least every 9-15 months to assess compliance with federal standards of care such as adequacy of staffing, quality of care and cleanliness of facilities. In addition, as necessary, the Division investigates complaints and serious incidents occurring within a nursing home.

Office of Patient Protection - Massachusetts consumers and other individuals who receive health coverage from a Massachusetts carrier, insurer or HMO are entitled to new protections covering internal grievances, medical necessity guidelines, continuity of care and independent external reviews.

Cancer Prevention and Control - Partnerships between MDPH programs and researchers, providers, and consumers promote shared public messages, education of health professionals, and data collection. This collaborated effort focuses on reducing cancer risk, incidence, morbidity, and mortality by promoting a healthy lifestyle, early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and access to care. The Department’s programs address the impact of genetics, tobacco, alcohol, nutrition, physical activity, sun exposure, school health issues, and environmental and occupational hazards on cancer.

Massachusetts Cancer Registry - The Massachusetts Cancer Registry is responsible for the collection of information regarding all newly diagnosed cases of cancer in Massachusetts. These data provide crucial information for monitoring the impact of environmental and occupational hazards, as well as for designing and evaluating cancer prevention and control programs.

Tobacco Control Program - The Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program is a statewide government program dedicated to addressing the severe health risks associated with tobacco use.

West Nile Virus - Provides extensive information on WNV surveillance, the testing of birds and mosquitoes, and how to reduce your risk of infection.

Office of Multicultural Health - The Massachusetts Office of Multicultural Health promotes the health and well being of ethnic minority communities throughout the Commonwealth by increasing the Department's capacity to respond effectively to the critical public health needs of these communities.

Office of Healthy Communities - The Office of Healthy Communities coordinates and networks with all existing interdepartmental community health efforts that improve the health and quality of life of the communities of the Commonwealth.
