The Bureau
of Hospitals is organized as a system of four multi-specialty
hospitals that provide acute and chronic hospital medical care
to individuals for whom community facilities are not available
or access to health care is restricted. The Public Health Hospitals
function as an integral part of the Department and contribute
to its commitment to maintain, protect and improve the health
and well being of citizens of the Commonwealth. Through a combined
focus on delivery of health care services to special populations,
education and research. The public health hospitals serve as a
catalyst for change in the health care system by developing and
modeling new treatment programs and responding to emerging health
needs.
