Community
Health Network Area - Health Status Indicators and Data
The
Department makes health indicators and data available
for the entire Community Health Networks as well as
for each of the 351 towns and cities. These health indicators
are organized under seven topics: sociodemographic indicators,
perinatal and child health indicators, infectious disease
indicators, injury indicators, chronic disease indicators,
substance abuse indicators, and preventable hospital
discharge indicators. The reports compare local rates
and percentages with those for the State.
The health indicators provide one basis for identifying
local health issues. In addition, a Community Health
Network might conduct its own surveys, needs assessments
or focus groups to assist in investigating and prioritizing
local health concerns.
These reports are available through the Massachusetts Community Health
Information Profile (MassCHIP). MassCHIP is the Department's user-friendly,
internet-accessible data dissemination system. MassCHIP was specially
designed for providing quick access to community level health statistics.
For more information on MassCHIP, please visit the MassCHIP
homepage, or call 888-MAS-CHIP (toll free in Massachusetts), or
(617) 624-5541 during normal business hours.
