Environment Category


Criteria in the environment category concern resident comfort and safety, as well as, facility housekeeping, maintenance and sanitation. A facility must provide a safe, functional, sanitary and comfortable environment for the residents, staff and the public.
    1. The facility provides a safe, clean, comfortable and homelike environment.

    2. The facility has implemented and followed procedures to provide housekeeping and maintenance services.

    3. The facility provides residents with clean bedding and linens that are in good condition.
      (42 CFR 483.15(h) (3)   F 254 )

    4. The facility ensures that the resident environment remains as free of accident hazards as is possible.

    5. The facility must ensure that the nurses' station is equipped to receive resident call through a communication system from resident rooms, toilet and bathing facilities.

    6. Other environmental conditions. The facility must provide a safe, functional, sanitary and comfortable environment for residents, staff and the public.

    7. The facility maintains an effective pest control program so that the facility is free of pests and rodents.
