The Head Start-State Collaboration Office at the Department of Early Education and Care and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) are hosting a series of five community meetings focused on the effective implementation of the federally mandated Memorandum of Understanding between local Head Start and Public Schools. These events bring together Head Start programs and their local public schools as well as Coordinated Family and Community Engagement grantees and Early Intervention partners. The state-wide community meetings provide:
  • An overview of approaches to Linking PK-3 in Massachusetts: Activities to Support Continuity for Children and Families Across Early Learning and Elementary Grades;
  • An overview of the importance of systems that support school readiness, including alignment of the State 2011 Prekindergarten Learning Standards and the HS Child Development and Early Learning Framework
  • An overview of the federally mandated Head Start Act of 2007 Memorandum of Understanding between local Head Start and Public Schools, and
  • An opportunity to share best practices in activities such alignment of curriculum and assessment, opportunities for joint professional development, and supporting seamless transitions.
