Dear Early Education and Care Partners:

The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) in partnership with the Multilingual Action Council (MAC) at Wheelock College is sponsoring the Multilingual Action Council Sixth Conference: “The Immigrant Experience: Identifying and Supporting the needs of multilingual children and families” a one-day conference for EEC’s  and MAC’s partners of the mixed delivery system,  which includes Head Start (HS); Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grantees (CFCE); Child Care Resources and Referral Agencies (CCR&Rs); MASS 2-1-1; Family Child Care (FCC) System Providers; and ORI’s providers and their stakeholders.  For the past six year, this conference is meticulously designed to equip providers, stakeholders and other professionals with strategies and practical applications to better support multilingual children and families.

In Massachusetts a growing number of Immigrants face multiple challenges and barriers in their newly adopted country. The stress of transitioning to life in a different country can have significant impact on the psychological and physical well-being of multilingual immigrants and their children. This conference brings together a broad cross-section of professionals, whose day-to-day work can inform this conversation, including experts on immigration and refugee policies, service providers, academics, and government officials.  Identifying, acknowledging, finding solutions, resources, and providing support to these challenges help break down the barriers and build trusting relationships between educators, families and children which can empower immigrants to contribute and participate in strong healthy communities. Topics include: Immigration 101 - Language Acquisition - Cultural Competency - Family Engagement - Mental Health

The conference has been postponed until Fall 2013.

At Wheelock College – 43 Hawes St. – Brookline MA 02446
